Listen to Him

Posted by Pastor Christopher Hull on

The Gospel reading in the Treasury of Daily Prayer today is the account of the Transfiguration. Jesus took Peter, James, and John up on a mountain, and before their eyes, was transfigured. He became as white as light and revealed to these three pillars His Divine Nature. With Jesus appeared Moses and Elijah, and Peter wanted to make three tents for them so they could all hang out on the mountain for a good long time. However, the Father overshadowed this glorious moment, terrified the three Apostles, and said, "This is My beloved Son, with Whom I am well pleased, listen to Him."

Listen to what Jesus says, says the Father. Listen when He says, "I forgive you your sins." Take heed when Jesus says, "I must go to Jerusalem and be delivered over into the hands of wicked men and be crucified, but take heart, for the Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve, and give His life as a ransom for many." Listen when Jesus says, "This is My Body, This is My Blood, given and shed for you for the forgiveness of your sins." Listen to Jesus when He says, "As the Father has sent Me, even so I am sending you. Forgive the sins of those who repent, and withhold forgiveness from those that continue to repent not." Listen to Jesus, for He is not just some guy, some man, but God united in that most perfect personal union with human nature. He is the sacrificial lamb destined to be slain for the sins of the whole world. He is the anointed Savior of all sinful mankind from sin, death, world, and the power of the devil. Listen to Him, for He desires to absolve you and speak words of grace and comfort into your heart everyday that you walk through this valley of the shadow of death. Like the apostles before us, may The Holy Spirit continue to strengthen our faith in order that we listen to our justifying Lord who justifies us, Jesus the Christ.

Peace be with you. May the devil be silenced, the world be hushed, and the Old Adam be drowned anew so that you hear only the peaceful voice of your Savior Jesus who says, "I forgive you. I love you. I claim you as My own forever," Amen.
